2020 Commandments

January 1, 2020 by Leanne Sowul 3 Comments

As I started reflecting and planning for 2020, these commandments began popping into my head. Usually it’s just one word that guides me, but this year something else took shape. The rough idea comes from Gretchen Rubin’s Personal Commandments and other similar lists, but these are tailored specifically to my 2020 purpose. I’d like to share them with you today.

2020 Commandments

  1. Drink up all the love.
  2. Let love be your foundation.
  3. View the world through gratitude.
  4. Quality input, quality output.
  5. Get inspired in order to inspire.
  6. Put it all out there.
  7. Seek purpose.
  8. Serve your people.
  9. Draw strength from within; replenish from without.
  10. Remember who you are, and who you want to be.

They’re about identity, perspective and gratitude. They’re about focusing on what matters. They led me to my word of 2020, which is going to be OPEN. Last year, I had to do a lot of hard work on myself; this year, I want to be more open to others. Open to experiences. Open to risk, and fear, and empathy. Open to ideas.

Please share with a comment or on social media if you have commandments or a word for 2020; I’d love to be inspired by your vision for the year.

Happy New Year, readers!

Sounds great, Leanne. My word of the year is “free”–and I’m still untangling what that means to me. My “subword” is “soften.” I speak it gently to myself every time I feel myself straining or obsessing over something. So far, “soften” has been extremely calming and helpful!
