A Mother Of Two, One In Heaven, One On Earth

Today, I am honored to share a beautiful, heartfelt poem written by my friend Marie, a very special kind of mother. In Marie’s words:

“I am proud to be the mommy of two beautiful baby girls, Sadie and Emily, one in heaven and one on earth. Our firstborn daughter, Sadie Jane, was stillborn on June 19th, 2012, at 36 weeks and 6 days gestation…a perfect 6 lbs. 2 oz. and 19.5 inches. She will always be deeply loved, celebrated, and missed.”

The Terrible Twos

To a bereaved mother,
The terrible twos…
Mean 365 days of “I miss yous”
12 more longing months….52 weeks …that she cannot kiss those sweet chubby cheeks

To a bereaved mother,
What’s sure for this year
Are dreams of her baby
And outbursts of tears
It doesn’t get better,
It never feels right
To turn into bed minus snuggles each night

To a bereaved mother,
There’s never an end
Her baby’s in heaven,
That hole she can’t mend
There’s not a condolence that gives grief some slack
There’s nothing to say that can bring my girl back

To a bereaved mother,
The ‘terrible twos’
Is far from the fun phrase most mommies can use
Now two years my angel, two years in the sky
I miss you, my Sadie, love knows no goodbyes
