I’m linking up with writer/blogger friend Sara Letourneau for “What’s Making Me Happy” this month– hop over to her blog to see her picks!
I’m binge-watching… Parenthood
It took me awhile to get into Parenthood, but I’m completely hooked now. It’s the kind of show I’d want to write: about a big family who loves each other but has plenty of conflict and doesn’t take themselves too seriously. I love the show’s diverse cast, too, and how the storylines resolve clearly but not always expectedly. Adam, Sarah, Crosby, Julia and their partners make a lot of mistakes, but the moments when they figure out the exact right thing to say to their kids… I wish I could bottle those. Adam’s talk with Max about his changing body. Crosby explaining to Jabbar what God means to him. Julia making Victor feel safe in his new family. Love.
I’m craving… grilled pizza
My husband figured out how to make pizza on the grill. He tops flatbreads or pita with kale, green onions, garlic, mushrooms, eggplant, and of course mozzarella. Everyone else gets pizza sauce, and I get ricotta, because Eleanor is still sensitive to tomatoes in breast milk. I don’t even mind that it’s white pizza– it’s so, so good.
I’m loving… grapefruit ice pops
I bought an ice pop mold last month, and I’ve been keeping it filled with grapefruit juice. I really enjoyed eating fresh grapefruit every evening over the winter, but now that it’s out of season, I’ve found a solution that’s just as refreshing. 1/3 cup of 100% grapefruit juice in the pop molds, and I’m set for six nights of icy, tart goodness.
I’m enjoying… our new patio furniture
Last month, I wrote about our new screened-in porch and deck. We finally got carpeting and furniture for it a few weeks ago. I love the extra space to eat lunch, play games, read and write; I love getting more sun and breeze; and I especially love the bird-song. Expanding our house has expanded my happiness.
And finally, I’m appreciating… my old-school Kindle.
I’ve had my Kindle since 2011. It’s a second-generation one with a real keypad, a very matte screen, and big buttons for turning pages. The battery lasts forever, and I even enjoy its little quirk of not downloading new books after being charged unless I re-set the internet. I’m using this one until it dies. New isn’t always better!
I like the summery theme of this Happy post! One of my best friends who loves to cook made grilled pizza for dinner once (a basic margarita pizza), and it was so delicious. The smoke from the charcoal gives it such a unique flavor.
Your porch enclosure turned out beautifully! It looks so cozy and peaceful. 🙂 How is the “new” deck, btw?
The deck has been great, too, but I spend most of my time on the screened-in porch. It can get pretty buggy with the woods right behind us, and it’s so relaxing to be mosquito-free! I like the deck for stretching my legs without having to leave my kids for long, watching birds and animals, and just getting a quick burst of sun.
Now I’m hungry for grilled pizza…and I haven’t even eaten breakfast yet.
I love hearing about all the little things that make people happy. Now that I’ve finished redesigning my blog (with a few glitches still to be worked out, I’m sure) I can turn my mind to more relaxing summer pursuits. I want to pull out our ice cream maker and make homemade ice cream at least once this summer. I also have a set of ice pop molds, and a recipe for lemon pops I want to try. (Why are all my summer activities food realted?!)
Summer is the best time to think about food, Kathy! Everything is so fresh and yummy 🙂 I haven’t even written about our family’s new farm share yet. We’re getting amazing fresh fruits and vegetables every week. Next month’s post, probably!
