I finally got the biopsy results from my doctor last night. And…. I don’t have cancer! So much relief packed into two little words: “Everything’s okay.”
I gave my husband a huge, joy-filled hug, and then started calling and texting my friends and family. There were tears of happiness and relief. It felt so good to give my family some long-deserved good news. I’m so glad none of my loved ones had to be my caregiver, but I’m also grateful for all the care I received during this scare. You know you’re loved when you send out good news, and then you can’t keep the phone to your ear because text after text is coming in and interrupting your conversation.
I was excited to tell my friends and family the good news. But I realized that I was just as excited to tell all of you. I’ve taken you along on this journey of mine; while waiting for the biopsy and the results to follow, I’ve shown you pieces of my cancer past. I’ve released stories that I’ve held inside for 15 years. I’ve made connections with others who’ve survived cancer, and some who are still fighting. I’ve received the gifts of support, encouragement, prayer and friendship. I’m so thankful for the community that has been built here, and for every one of you, readers and friends, for being a part of that community.
I’m still continuing with the cancer stories- good news or not, there’s still more to share! Starting next Monday, I’ll be sharing stories with you from other cancer-survivors and current cancer-fighters. I’ve loved hearing these stories myself, and I know you’ll appreciate the strength and positive attitudes exuded by these amazing women.
One final request:
Please celebrate with me today!
Give yourself a little treat. Eat something delicious. Watch your favorite TV show. Spend time reflecting on the good things in life. Perform a random act of kindness. Make plans to do something fun with a friend.
Celebrate life with me!
