Happy Monday morning! As you begin your workweek, before you jump into the minutiae of everyday work and life, take a moment to step back and ask yourself a Big Question. This can be a writing prompt, or just a question to ponder during the day.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
If you’re using this as a writing prompt, take your superpower and give it to a character in your work-in-progress. (If you’ve been writing nonfiction or memoir, that character can be you.) Then put your character in a situation where the superpower would be impossible to use, and figure out how your character finds the ability to use it again.
The superpower I’d want right now? Since it’s my question, I’m going to take the liberty of giving three answers:
1. The obvious answer: The ability to fly. (Because everyone wants to fly, right?)
2. The writing-related answer: The ability to get other people to respond to my emails immediately. (I’m impatient to hear back from agents!)
3. The mundane-life-related answer: The ability to snap my fingers and have all of our vacation things packed in an instant. (Like Mary Poppins did with cleaning Jane and Michael’s room. I totally want that. Marching puppets and all.)
If you have an answer you’d like to share, I’d love to hear about it in the comment section!
Think, write and share this question with others.
Have a great week, everyone!
